Bet on England vs Australia Ashes Series

William Hill has England only slight underdogs to win series down under.
By Nigel K | Nov 11, 2010

English cricket has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts in recent years after finally wresting back The Ashes from Australia in 2005 and then doing it again in 2009, but the team still hasn't won a test series on Australian soil since way back in 1986.

With Australia going through its biggest form slump in decades - which has seen it fall to fifth in the ICC test rankings - England will have its best chance yet to break that drought.

The William Hill odds for the series seem to indicate exactly that: England is 7/4 to win the five-test series, only marginally behind Australia, which is 4/5. A drawn series, which would of course mean England retains the coveted trophy, is paying 5/1.

However, if England is to win it will be with a low number of outright victories, as the team is favoured to win just one test, at odds of 7/4. The odds of winning two tests is 2/1, while a repeat of the debacle of four years ago in Australia, when England failed to win even one (and Australia won all five) is paying 3/1.

Unsurprisingly, Andrew Strauss leads all the batting odds, with 3/1 on him scoring the first England century in the series, ahead of Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen, 4/1 each.

James Anderson is tipped to take England's first wicket, 2/1, ahead of Stuart Broad, 5/2. However, Graeme Swann, 5/4, is consider the most likely to be the top England bowler over the entire series.

The series begins with the first test in Brisbane, starting November 25. Visit William Hill now to sign up, clain your bonus and place a bet on the winner.
