England Slips in World Cup Odds

Three Lions face Slovenia in last chance to rebuild 2010 campaign.
By | Jun 22, 2010

England has slipped three spots to sixth in the World Cup betting odds, not surprising given the team's dismal one-all and nil-nil ties in the first two games of the group stage.

Needing a win against Slovenia on Wednesday to be certain of progression to the round of 16, England is now at 10/1 at William Hill Sports to win the World Cup for a second time, behind new favorite Brazil, 4/1, Spain and Argentina, 9/2, Holland, 8/1, and Germany, 9/1.

The Three Lions are now out to evens to win the group, and 4/9 to qualify in one of the first two spots. All teams are still in the running, with top-of-the table Slovenia (4 points) at 4/6 odds to qualify, the US (two points) at 8/15, and Algeria (one point) at 7/2.

Alternatively, England is 13/8 not to qualify.

In the head-to-head matchup for Wednesday night, England is a hot 1/2 favorite to win the match. A draw is paying 3/1, while a Slovenia victory might look tempting for the most pessimistic of English supporters, as it is paying 6/1.

William Hill is also paying 80/1 odds for an England World Cup victory-Andy Murray Wimbledon victory double. Wimbledon got underway on Monday and ends July 4, one week before the World Cup final in Johannesburg.
